DorTag Plus Access System

The DorTag Plus reader is an RFID proximity reader head (antenna) used with RFID Proximity cards & Key Tags control.

Core Features

RFID Reading

  • Reads 125 kHz proximity tags/cards
  • Typical technologies:
    • EM4100 / TK4100

Physical Design

  • Compact reader head (antenna type)
  • Often:
    • Plastic or stainless steel housing
    • Wall-mounted near entry point

Indicators

  • LED (bi-colour) for status
  • Buzzer for read confirmation

Technical Specifications (Typical DorTag Reader)

Parameter Specification
Frequency 125 kHz
Read range 6–10 cm
Voltage 5–12V DC (from controller)
Current Low (≈30–50 mA)
Interface Wiegand / proprietary
Cable Multi-core (5-core typical)
Environment Indoor / sheltered outdoor

Read range depends on tag type and mounting surface

Functional Role in System

What the reader does:

  • Detects RFID card/tag
  • Sends unique ID to controller

What it does NOT do:

  • Does not store users
  • Does not control locks directly

All logic is handled by the controller (e.g., DorTag VI)

System Integration

Typical wiring:

Reader → Controller

  • Power (+ / –)
  • Data lines (D0 / D1 or similar)
  • LED/Buzzer control

Controller → Door system

  • Relay output → lock / gate motor

Use Cases

  • Entry reader (outside door)
  • Exit reader (inside door, optional second reader)
  • Gate access control

DorTag systems can support:

  • 1 reader (entry only)
  • 2 readers (entry + exit)

Important Practical Notes

Compatibility

  • Must match:
    • DorTag controller
    • Frequency (125 kHz)

Cable limits

  • Max ~15m with shielded cable
  • Poor wiring = unreliable reads

Security

  • Uses low-frequency RFID
  • Easy to deploy, but:
    • Lower security than MIFARE systems

Position vs Other Readers

Type Example Use Case
DorTag Plus reader Basic proximity Small access systems
Keypad reader RFID + PIN Medium security
MIFARE reader Encrypted High security systems
Long-range reader Vehicle access Industrial
