The Marantec Protect-Opto 602 is a leading edge optical safety device intended for use on   industrial sectional doors. (aslo called a leading light barrier).  The Protect-Opto 602 sensor is designed to monitor the bottom edge of the door for obstacles while the door is closing.

• It is a non-contact safety system mounted on the bottom edge of the door leaf
• Designed to detect obstacles before physical contact
• Prevents injury and damage by triggering stop/reverse functions
• Upon contact with the floor, the sensor retracts and rotates away from under the door path.

It is described as:

an “optical safety device to protect against personal injury and damage to property”

Operating Principle

• Uses infrared transmitter + receiver (DUO system)
• Mounted on the moving door edge
• Creates a horizontal light barrier in front of the closing edge
• If the beam is interrupted → control unit:
  • Stops the door
  • Reverses movement

 This is why it is called a “leading edge device” — it detects hazards before contact.
